My advice would be to move onto another storyline already.

Lauren is going to be waiting for him at home wearing nothing but a smile. Classic sit-com hijinks ensue while Mike and Boner try and keep the two hotties from finding out about each other even though they're no more than 20 feet apart. Wait... I think I may have gotten things confused there at the end.

Alright, my advice to Al:

Wait 3-5 days, and then if you haven't heard from the girl by then, own up and give her a call on the next day.

Maybe you can ease her into the distance thing. It's not like you have anything to lose at that point, right?

How will all of this affect Al when he gets back home, where he has a whole other set of relationship problems waiting for him....?

"you suck... trust me"

convincing! haha

You suck.

Sometimes it's nice to hear the voice of the person at the other end of the long-distance relationship. That's something that instant messaging can't do. So you use a phone or voice chat. And it becomes something completely different than IM.

Though IM might be a nice alternative to the phone in the initial stages, it can't replace it. Trust me.

You know what's better than a phone when it comes to long distance relationships?

INSTANT MESSAGING!

Phones suck

Yeah, that last line does it, plus with the fact that he just kind of leaves it on that note. I did appreciate the different perspective on it though.

Kevin, I'm not complaining or criticizing.

Like I said, I've done this before. Putting it all on the girl like that. It's a typical guy move. It's very honest from a storytelling perspective. Of course, I think what pushes it over into that region for me is the parting line of "The ball's in your court."

Hmmm, perhaps it would be good to get a girl's perspective on how that went down. Maybe ask your wife to take a look at it. I could be completely off base.

But I still liked it because it's very human.

Wow, while we were writing this one, I didn't even think of the fact that Al could be sounding dicky at all. After reading it again, yeah, I can see where you'd think that. I think it would depent on how it's said.

I guess the intention on my side of it was that he was trying not to pressure her into some kind of decision, just saying he's there. Al put himself out there a little bit and he made it clear that he wants her to call.

Actually, I thought it was kind of a dick move. Which is something I really like about this comic. The characters don't have it all figured out. Janette isn't sure about this whole long-distance thing and making excuses (personal note: my girlfriend and I began as a long-distance thing and we're making it work. She'll be moving down here in January). Al, not sure of what to say, just moves all the responsibility over to Janette's side. It's not to say that I haven't done something like that, and from a guy's perspective, it seems so simple and practical. But from the girl's perspective, it's kind of a dick move.

I really hope this gets addressed in one of the later comics. Janette totally needs to call Al out on that shit.

interesting twist. Leave it up to the girl. I've done that a couple times..... its a plan that is often fraught with failure.

Especially if it's Lindsay Lohan...

..oh no, wait. I meant to say Bryce Dallas Howard. ;)

When it's a redhead, you tell EVERYONE.

Haha. I always did talk to the cops on campus when I saw them. Always good to know someone in the law just in case. But a Pogues never tells about his sex life, he is too class. But come on, redhead? score.
