Cheadle and Downey put their names on the dotted line. No word on casting the other members of the team or what the plot will officially be about but the rumors of The Hulk being the baddie are uncertain after his name is included in the team roster of the movie. Follow the link for more.

This is probably sacreligious to fans of the comic, but I'm completely fine with the movie skipping Giant Man and the Wasp. Even the Ultimate versions are complete dry humps of superheroes.

The great thing about not reading the comics is that I have a basic knowledge of the leading characters, so I won't care if the movie completely strays from the comics or leaves out key characters I haven't heard of (like Giant Man and the Wasp). That leaves me as open as possible to enjoy the film without screaming that they weren't supposed to do X, Y, or Z. (Like Green Goblin dangling Mary Jane Gwen Stacy style over the Brooklyn Bridge. THEY SO COULD HAVE USED THAT WITH GWEN IN SPIDER-MAN 4 OR 5!! ARG!!)

Not to mention having her alive later on...

Though, arguably, someone else could do that to Peter in the 4th film and say something like "do you have a sense of ... dejavu? This looks familiar to me" and actually kill her off, as though the person was familiar with something previously from Spidey's career.

In fact, that'd be a very appropriate thing to have Mysterio do, since he's kind of that way inclined.

And I'm always one to support Mysterio! But let's keep things Avengers related, not Spidey.

So the Avengers roster so far is Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk? I guess that Ant Man comedy won't come around, and Eva Longoria won't be Wasp. And War Machine is supposed to be in the movie too? I sense a plethora of explosions. 8)

Part of me wishes they could sign Jackman and Maguire despite Spiderman and X-men being outside Marvel Studios' control, maybe make it similar to the original New Avengers line-up. But knowing what I know now, that line-up ultimately was just to group the most popular Marvel characters on the covers. Their interaction in the stories themselves ended being really minimal- hell, it was more like Wolverine was an infrequent guest star.

War Machine and Ironman on the same team at the same time? It's gonna be awful shiny in this movie XD

Good news! The first draft of the Avengers script is done!
Bad news! It's written by Zak Penn (Elektra, X-men 3, Incredible Hulk)...

Depends on what your definition of the word "terrible" is...

I never felt any rage watching Incredible Hulk, like I did with Daredevil or Wolverine, and I was never annoyed like I was with Fantastic Four 2 (freaking Mr. Fantastic's dance) or Spider-Man 3 (freaking Emo-Spidey's dance). :P

Incredible Hulk was awesome, but those others were an atrocity. I have a bad feeling that if Avengers isn't given the right amount of attention, it'll be even worse than X-3.

The nicest thing I can say about the writing in Incredible Hulk is it was uninteresting at best. The movie as a whole I felt was all flash and no substance.

Didn't Zac Penn also write the screenplay for X2? Meaning he wrote something generally liked? I didn't much, and thought 3 was better and Wolverine was better still. I don't know what people have against Wolverine, except that Sabretooth wasn't 11 feet tall or that it didn't seem to entirely make sense with Scott and Xavier, but it's not as though the comics are without their flaws on those consistency terms anyway.

I don't think Penn is the best around, but Marvel seems to like him. I'd personally like to see them bring in some new blood not because I dislike his work, but because I'd like to see some different perspectives. Iron Man's script was fantastic.
