X-men: First Class

Postby The REAL Brian » Fri Jan 28, 2011 8:53 am

The pics have been up on Rotten Tomatoes and Aint It Cool for a few days now. I'm... a little skeptical. I know it's a reboot, but visually... I'm not buying into it. Magneto's costume feels very "off" (The helmet is okay.)and Professor Xavier... well he has HAIR. And he looks younger than some of his students. That must have been a rough ten years on ol' Chuck.

The reality of this film is it's Fox's desperation move to keep the license to the franchise. They have a few films left in the contract and the first two X-films were big money makers for them. Marvel Studios is chomping at the bit to get X-men and Spiderman for themselves to complete the movie universe under their direct control(Which started with Ironman). So we know they're praying for these reboots to bomb. (Marvel studios will still slap their name on the films, but they have little to no real involvement.) If First Class is successful it could mean Fox might be able to twist Marvel's arm into negotiating a new contract(It's all about the green, after all.)

Professor X looks like Wallace from Scott Pilgrim, and that's not a good thing. The movie is about all the students as high schoolers, right? Doesn't that mean that she:

is underage?

I got a major 60s Bond vibe from the trailer. I would prefer if the movie was only Prof X and Magneto. I could care less about everyone else........well except Kevin Bacon

I think the trailer looks amazing! Question though.... Which mutant do think Kevin Bacons penis is going to be?

The trailer in Russian but with extra footage...

Yeah, pretty impressive, not sure about Xavier though. Not wantng to slander his acting that guy doesn't look like he's about to go WAY bald anytime soon. I just hope they don't say its a secondary mutation or have him attacked by a baldness inducing mutant (Slaphead) to fill in the gaps. Having said that, I'm not sure how many young balding actors there are.

Actually I think I remember reading once in a comic how his mutant ability did cause his baldness...

They'd have to tweak Xavier to punch a lot more people with his actual fists and possibly kick with his still-working legs.

Firstly, we have vastly different definitons of young. Secondly, Jason Statham's not that good.

They've been playing the hell out of the trailers on tv. After 3 and wolverine I wasn't sure I wanted anything more to do with x-men movies, but the trailer looks pretty fun. Although, the same could be said of the trailers for 3 and wolverine... I'll see what the critics say.

I always thought that X3 and Wolverine looked bad to begin with. So I wasn't really surprised when it turned out they sucked. I think First Class looks interesting though.

I was skeptical until I saw the trailers... It looks like they really are trying to make this a good movie with a good story, not a big shit pile of fan-service. Kind of surprised Azazel's teleportation looks worse than Nightcrawler's, and baby Mystique's makeup looks a lot more amateurish than the original's... But hey, special effects are just effects. I'm going to look forward to Xavier blowing off his legs (not literally) with a psychic strain. IT WILL HAPPEN.

Do you think that's because whoever is playing baby Mystique isn't as patient in the makeup chair as her older counterparts?

I hadn't thought of the reason, besides maybe the actress's facial structure doesn't lend itself as well to the layers of scaly makeup like Rebecca Romijn's.

Could be it just looks worse in the trailers than in the actual movie. It seems like that happens a lot more these days, I don't know why.
