Wallpaper?

Postby Bizarro_Joe » Fri Aug 08, 2008 1:20 pm

Any chance of seeing some downloadable wallpaper of varying resolutions? It's be nice if there were also some mobile wallpaper sizes for cell phones, PDAs, etc.

Absolutly. this is something I was thinking about jsut the other day. I love the set up that GWS uses where there are 2 or 3 options and you can donate anything (1 dollar, 10 dollars, 1 penny) to download one of your choice.

I thought it might be cool to put up one for each of the strips. would you guys be down for a miniscule donation for wallpapers?

Yeah, I think that micropayments for things like wallpaper are well worth it.

What's GWS?

This is something I would love to do. I didn't know you could do the download thing after purchase?

GirlsWithSlingshots

If people like this idea enough I'll make it happen. I'll have to talk with the other pimps about it though.

I can't remember how GWS does it, but I know that other sites will send you an email with the download link after getting your payment information.

As an example, I would send Joe a payment via paypal that includes my email address. Joe would get the payment and send me an email in response thanking me for my donation and providing me with a link for the wall paper downloads.

Is there a standard wall paper size? I can't even tell anymore with the Imacs and all. What sizes are the most common among you guys?

Deviant Art says
640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 2048x1536

Which really, I'd say 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 are the norm now. Though there are widescreens to think of, which are becoming increasingly more common. 1280 x 800 I believe is the standard on that side. If you provide any of the larger sizes they can always be sized by the user to fit their smaller resolution.

Bear in mind that lots of people like to use images on mobiles these days, so smaller image sizes do still serve a purpose (or, have returned to serving a purpose). For another year or so until everybody owns a phone with a 1080i display...

I would be wary of any deviantART definition, as they tend to "define" things to fit what they want them to be, versus the actual definition.

Such as requiring macro photography to essentially be taken with microscopes.

Uh.. it's not really up for redefinition. Those are the resolutions for standard monitors. I just copied it from deviant for expediency. Hardware forces those sizes, it's not anything they get to define themselves.

We're offering 8 different sizes, and it's up now! Check out and donate any amount for the Rebecca on a seesaw image. Every penny donated goes to Breast Cancer research - http://digitalpimponline.com/board/view ... 9805#99805

There's always the possibility that they left sizes out, but I'll concede that you're right. I'm just jaded about dA in general is all. :|

Fantastic, Joe. I hope that this is something that works out well for you guys. Perhaps it should get a nice spot on the home page?
