10 on the 10th - 1/07 - Top 10 Spy Movies

I can tell you that for February I'm thinkng about doing the top ten movie couples.

Ooooh... ooh.... Harold and Maude.

Sorry, just had to throw that out there, as I'm pretty much the only person that seems to like that movie.

I'm right there with you on most of those, but I would've made room for True Lies and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (both way better than Enemy of the State or Bourne Identity). I still would've voted for Spies Like Us, though.

How the hell is Mr & Mrs Smith better than either Enemy of the State or The Bourne Identity? True Lies, yeah. Totally. But Mr & Mrs Smith is a cheap impersonation of True Lies. Not a unique spy film like any of those on the list. Even Spies like Us, a typical Landis film, is 3 times more original than Mr & Mrs Smith (I took the liberty of watching it - Spies Like Us, that is - last night).

Oh Fuck! I Love True Lies. that would easily slide in somewhere arounf number 7 or 8. Good call on that.

I like Mr. and Mrs. Smith but need to see it again to know if it's worth being on the list. Wow I can't believe I left out True Lies.

I have to agree with all the votes for "Top Secret". It's a hilarious movie and it's a shame you haven't had the opportunity to see it yet.

One flick I would like to toss into the mix but no one has mentioned is "Cloak & Dagger". An incredible flick and surprisingly violent for a "kid" movie. A young Henry Thomas and a relatively young Dabney Coleman flesh out the cast of this little gem. I highly recommend it.

I was just thinking that. The Naked Gun also deserves some love. The sequels as well, to a lesser extent.

And the mention of True Lies made me shat myself. Brilliance. It would have gotten my vote

I agree. And while "Spies Like Us" and two of "Austin Powers" are on the list, "Spy Hard" is too silly to be there.

Oooo, the Bourne Identity is making a comeback. I love both movies but I'm pulling for Bourne because I actually own the DVD.

No. Ted Danson's character played a spy in one of his movies. He was an actor playing a spy. But it was really a cover concocted by the CIA to allow him a free range of movement through countries where they were restricted. So he really was a spy. In the original script, the baby was real enouch but she also hid vital intelligence. There are still elements of this throughout the movie as presented. But it was all ruined by the idiotic Three Men and A Little Lady.

So, Ted Danson is an actor, portraying a spy, pretending to be an actor, playing a spy. It's crazy, no? I don't see how it didn't win.
