I read somewhere that the Skrulls are a big possibility, as well as including the Kree for that story.
But I hope the Leader from The Incredible Hulk shows up too.

A mighty morphin' alien Pez dispenser?

That guy in the poster looks really familiar. Like a beefed up Green Goblin, but somebody more specific...

I'm pretty sure its a Super Skrull from one of the Annihilation Wave stories.
If you're looking in a signature for some astonishing insight into the way things are, keep on lookin'.

If they are doing the Hulk and the Skrulls as villains, I wonder how much they are drawing from the Ultimates I story. The Chuitari, or however you spell that, were the Ultimate version of the Skrulls.

Just bear in mind, that's fanart. Clearly by a fan of the super-skrulls. It's not a press release that bears any weight. I'd hate it if they do the skrulls.

I think the Skrulls would be better suited for a Fantastic Four film, otherwise the Super Skrull would be a bit hard to explain.

I think the Avengers film needs a TEAM of villains. The Masters of Evil(Maybe downplaying the name in the film) would be great. It could pit Zemo against Cap, The Wrecker against Thor, The Beetle against Ironman, ect ect. Bearing in mind I mean the classic masters before they became The Thunderbolts.

If it has to be a single villain, then you may as well go all out and bring on Ultron. I can't think of any other stand-alone villain who is a bigger threat to the Avengers while being fairly exclusive to their title. Plus it's a great way to introduce The Vision, as Ultron created him in the comics.

Ultron would be ridiculous in film.

I think a team is the way to go, and I think it needs to be the Sinister 6 or whatever they're called.

And yes, Super Skrull suits F4, but they'd F'ed that up. Unless they reboot, but who knows if that's on the cards? Aparently so, but we can only hope... but I don't think you'd cast a beter Johnny Storm or Thing.

EDIT:
Female Ultron, on the other hand, would be great:

In the comics, it was Loki provoking the Hulk into a rampage that made them decide to form the Avengers.

But I'm sure its going to be more than that in the movie. Loki is already going to be in the Thor movie, and every superhero movie sequel needs to introduce new villains as a draw-in for audiences.

I wonder what Avengers will be added to the roster too, if any. Mayhaps Hawkeye, Giant-man or the Wasp.

I thought I read somewhere that Jeremy Renner was going to be playing Hawkeye in the Avengers movie.

The Sinister Six is (originally) Spider-Man villains, and besides Sony owning the rights to the characters, their leader, Doctor Octopus, died in Spider-Man 2. That'd be a little confusing.

I honestly would love seeing a team of villains or one big bad villain (with heaps of minions, of course).

This is Hollywood! They'll just take the name, toss the characters and fill the roster with whomever they liked.

I don't know if a villain team would be the way to go. For comics geeks it's not an issue but I would think studio execs would look to movies like X-3 and Spiderman 3 where to many villains and plot lines ruined the films for Joe Average.

Of course if all the villains are following a central plot and they use already existing villains like The Leader, Thor, and Whiplash it could be a non issue.

But to need the assault of several good guys, you'd need several bad guys.

And plus, the Sinister 6, I'm pretty sure, has been used equally for the Avengers and for Spider-Man, and yes, Oc and Gobs were two regular players, but so were Dr Doom, Mr Sinister and a slew of others who had nothing to do with the Avengers, generally.

HYDRA would be a neat movie villain.

Well no doubt about that. They're what the Neo-Nazis WISH they were.

Though oddly enough... Hydra rarely ever talks about racial purity. Huhn.

But considering that Cap's film is coming first and how hand-in-hand he is with battling Hydra, I suspect they'll debut in his first film.
