Osama Bin Laden is dead

Chances are you've probably already heard the news. I'm not sure I have anything else to add, but this:

I feel kinda *meh* about this news. At the risk of stirring controversy, I don't see much significance in finally killing OBL. And I mean from the standpoint of the overall War on Terror. Sure, there is a national sense of victory and maybe even some closure (not to mention a great morale boost for our soldiers), and it's a good excuse for the current administration to wipe it's hands and go "Whelp, we're done here!" and pull out our troops. But how much do you wanna bet that another video will pop up in a week or so featuring a new villain claiming that Al Qaeda will never fall and that America will burn blah blah blah, and then it'll start all over again? The press is already starting to push the message that we all need to be extra special super careful because the enemy may retaliate.

Yeah, I think the killing of Bin Laden's primary effect will be raising the overall American morale. I'm not sure how much of an effect it will have on an organization like Al Qaeda, since it's not like being at war with a country. I hope though, that we'll eventually see less invasive airport security procedures... or at the very least, when I do get fondled by a TSA employee, that it's by an attractive woman.

It's a moral thing on both sides really. It probably won't have a major change from a tactical standpoint as far as Al Qaeda future plans go. However, I think from the Al Qaeda boots on the ground standpoint it may well have a pretty dramatic effect. The midlevel guys are mostly in it but the new guys, the low level foot soldiers, they may well be a little less gung-ho. The guy they've seen as 'beating' America for 10 years is all the sudden dead and buried by the US. He wasn't protected by God etc. It drives home the 'We will hunt you down, we will kill you' narrative; they can no longer hold OBL up as a failure on our part.

What? .. that's horrible. Stupid teenagers. I guess if a kid is 15 now they'd only have been 5 when 9/11 happened. Woah.

I read (on facebook) that the value of the US dollar went up. Coincidence?...

Googline who is he isn't the same as no knowing though, to be fair, and I bet those who did search it (though who'd search on Yahoo?) probably ended up knowing a lot more about him than most of us know of the top of our heads...
