Maybe this is old news, but I just found out about Batman: Gotham Knight. It will be animated, straight to DVD affair providing viewers with several stories that take place between Begins and TDK. It hits store shelves on July 8th.

Anyway the images we have are from the upcoming animated BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT, the ANIMATRIX type flick that is bridging the gap between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT. It is directed by Bruce Timm (co-creator of the Batman animated series) and features segments written by Josh Olsen, David Goyer and a bunch of others.

I don't think the Animatrix reference was meant to denote a particular type of style. I think it was meant as simply a reference to the general format of the DVD. You know, various shorts produced by different creators to tell different aspects of the story that takes place between the two larger films.

More than likely, each creator will bring their own preferred style, but these pictures seem to indicate at least some of the variations we can expect.

I'm sure we'll know more as we get closer to the release date.

Edited to add: Maybe this will help clear it up for you, Kast.
Batman: Gotham Knight was headed by an impressive list of directors who have brought their distinctly different anime styles to the classic Batman character. The production was divided among three renowned studios – Studio 4ºC, Production I.G and Madhouse – and included the truly inimitable visions of directors Shojiro Nishimi, Futoshi Higashide, Hiroshi Morioka, Yasuhiro Aoki and Toshiyuki Kubooka. With stories written by several of the most talented writers of film, comic books, and animation, including Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Josh Olson (A History of Violence), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Emmy®-winner Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series), Jordan Goldberg (Associate Producer, The Dark Knight), and award-winning comics writers Greg Rucka and Brian Azzarello, Batman: Gotham Knight presents thrilling new adventures of Batman that spotlight several of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains, including the fearsome Scarecrow, the freakish Killer Croc and the unnerving marksman known as Deadshot. Batman: Gotham Knight is produced by Emma Thomas (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Michael Uslan & Benjamin Melniker (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Toshi Hiruma and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).

Apparently Aaron Eckhart himself has confirmed that he will be seen as Two-Face in this film and that his story arc will continue into the next film.

Woot!

I'm hoping that it ends with him being revealed as Two-Face at the very very end of the movie. Like his face pops onto the screen, roll credits. I don't want to see more than 3 seconds of Two-Face in this movie, because I want it all dedicated to Joker. Joker deserves his own flick.

Exactly, no need to make the same mistake that Spider-man 3 made.

They updated the Harvey Dent site. I have no idea what the Dentmobile is, but I'm intrigued and seeing as it will be stop in Seattle perhaps I will check it out. I wonder if this is an attempt to swing back focus on Aaron Eckhart's character, since Heath Ledger's dead, or if this was planned all along.

The one thing that truly sucks about being stationed overseas is that I usually have to wait months to see new movies. And when they finally do show up on base, EVERYONE tries to see it at the same time. I think the max occupancy for the theater here is round abouts 3 people so lines get long. Every once in a while they will show new movies on the Italian economy, but subtitles distract me. Looks like I might have to start selling my body for a screener's copy. I wish I could say that its the first time it has happened... today.[/b]

Am I to be the first to call BS on this one? BS. I don't believe for a moment that this is a genuine excerpt. Part of this is to do with Nolan's interview where he states that "though influenced by Last Halloween, The Dark Knight will be its own story". I've paraphrased, but that's essentially what he said, and that was before shooting even began.
